Adegas Valmiñor
Adegas Valmiñor is a family-owned winery founded in 1997 by Carlos Gómez Davila in O Rosal, one of the three original subzones of DO Rías Baixas. The name comes from the nearby Val Miñor, (Miñor Valley), formed by the Miñor River on its way to the Atlantic Sons Pablo Gómez González and Yago Gómez González now manage the winery alongside their father, and the company has grown to include Bodegas Ébano, in Ribera del Duero.
The Wines
Valmiñor — 100% Albariño from 20-40 year-old vines. Grapes are cold-soaked for 6 hours before fermenting in stainless steel tanks.
Davila M100 — A blend of Albariño, Lourerio, and Caíño Branco from 30-40 year-old vines planted on sandy alluvial and metamorphic schist soils. Grapes are separated and Albariño is cold-soaked before fermentation in 2,500-liter French oak foudres, after which the wines age on their lees with bâtonnage for three months. The three grapes are then blended together and aged in tank for another three months before bottling, and rested for six months in bottle before release.
Davila L100 — One of the few single-varietal Loureiro Blanco wines on the market. Grapes come from hundred-year-old vines planted on sandy alluvial and metamorphic schist soils. Grapes are cold-soaked for 4 to 5 hours before fermenting in stainless steel tanks, after which the wine rests for 9 months and an additional 9 months in French oak foudres on the lees.
Davila C100 — A red wine made from the Castañal grape, an indigenous red variety found in the O Rosal subzone. Grapes come from a 3ha vineyard on metamorphic schist soils. Grapes are destemmed and crushed before a 10-day maceration and fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation also occurs in tank, after which the wine is racked into Bordeaux-style French oak barrels where it ages 4-6 months. After bottling, the wine rests three more months before release.
