Benito Santos was an influential figure in the history of Albariño. He started out working in family vineyards in Vilanova de Arousa and was among the first to bottle Albariño commercially. His wines gained early recognition at the Festa de Albariño, where he became a three-time winner. He was among the first wineries to join DO Rías Baixas and dedicated his life to championing Albariño as a serious wine. In 2002, the next generation of his family took over, and the winery continues his legacy under the direction of José Antonio Porto, who oversees 12 hectares of organically farmed vines in the heart of Val do Salnés.
