Lagar de Costa—literally “winery of the coast”—is a family-run estate in the Val do Salnés subzone of Rías Baixas. Now led by fourth-generation owner Sonia Costa, the winery’s origins date back to Sonia’s great-grandfather, who planted the first vines around the start of the Spanish Civil War for personal use. Over the latter half of the 20th century, the family increasingly focused on viticulture as Albariño’s reputation grew in Rías Baixas. Sonia’s grandfather and parents expanded the vineyard holdings, and she and her brother Manuel launched the first official Lagar de Costa vintage in 2001.
