Pazo de Barrantes is the Rías Baixas estate of Rioja’s Marqués de Murrieta, owned by the Counts of Creixell since the early 20th century. The property eventually came under the stewardship of Vicente Dalmau Cebrián-Sagarriga, the current Count of Creixell and president of Marqués de Murrieta. In the 1990s, as Albariño began to rise in prominence both in Spain and internationally, the family chose to dedicate the estate entirely to winemaking. A modern winery was constructed, and the first vintage of Pazo de Barrantes debuted in 1991. In 2019, the estate shifted its philosophy to concentrate on producing long-lived Albariño wines, prioritizing meticulous vineyard management and extended aging. To support this focus on quality, overall production was deliberately scaled back.
